Mysuru, 11 July
Multilingual actor
and activist Prakash Raj, condemned Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s “double
standards” over the Devanahalli land acquisition project.
Speaking to
reporters along with Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Dalitha Sangarsha
Samithi leaders, he accused Siddaramaiah of playing "drama" over the
issue.
Raj alleged that
the State government was involved in a "real estate business".
Siddaramaiah had promised Raj and agitating farmers that he would resolve their
demands by 15 July. But he then met the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during his recent New Delhi visit, Raj said.
“On the one hand,
the CM agreed to look into the demands of farmers of Devanahalli, on the other
he promised the Defence Minister that he would provide land for
establishment of Defence and aerospace corridors,” Raj hit out.
Raj alleged that
the State government is following a policy of coercion and intimidation to grab
farmer land. He alleged that 1,777 acres were taken from farmers, offering Rs 3
crore per acre without proper consultation
"When he was
in the Opposition, Siddaramaiah had vehemently opposed the Devanahalli project
in the Assembly. But now, after assuming office, he has not only given the
green light for the final notification but has also failed to honour his
commitment to meet with farmers,” Raj said.
Raj
also questioned the silence of Opposition parties such as the BJP and JD(S)
over the issue, and demanded the government explain why the land was acquired
without central clearance
